In this snowy woods is a nice example of how color and texture can be found in a fairly monochromatic scene. This is a snow-covered forest during a snow storm in Horicon. A few layer adjustments in CS6 plus a structure trick helped bring out the wood texture and little pops of color from the white scene. The image is now available in my Scenics gallery.
